About the Author

Fran Toney Young, a native Oklahoman, studied piano for ten years in Tulsa with June Tracey Cain. She studied seven years at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater where she graduated with a Bachelor of Music Education Degree with emphasis in organ and voice, and certification in Elementary Education. She has taught all styles of piano music over a span of 36 years in Stillwater, Oklahoma City and Edmond. She has been involved in all phases of church music since age 11, including church pianist, church organist, choir and orchestra member, children’s choir director, church worship leader from the piano and synthesizer, and has played and led for many women’s groups and retreats. She began composing Christian music at age 16. She has delighted in watching many of her students become proficient in church music and composition as they studied this method for improvisation, which developed over the years as she herself learned to improvise from scratch.

Fran has been married to husband Vernon Young for 38 years. Together they have two children and four grandchildren.

A Word From the Author

This book is designed to prepare present and future church musicians for improvisation on Christian music. The book includes intermediate level arrangements that are practical for any worship setting. It is also for the individual who just wants to enjoy playing their favorite hymns and worship choruses, whether by reading or by improvisation. This book will fill a hole in the market for this type of information, and I hope it brings many hours of joy and pleasure to those who purchase it.
